Talk to her

Talk to her was a very interesting movie. When the movie first started, it seemed so odd because the first thing we saw were these two women performing a intricate dance with chairs and walls. It seemed so vague and awkward. However, once we saw Benigno and Marco's faces it was understood that these two men were actually watching a show. All the connections/relationships in the movie were crucial for the uprising of the plot. Marco's relationship with Lydia was important because it was a relationship that flourished in the beginning, and then by the end it was dead. Benigno was probably the most interesting character for us because he had a complex relationship with Alicia. He was in love with her, but of course she had no idea. The most shocking part for us was at the end of the movie when we discover that Alicia was raped and impregnated by Benigno. We never expected Benigno to be such a desperate and "psychotic" character. It was very sad at the end because he ended up taking his own life just so he can somehow be united with someone he loved. The ending of the movie was very reminiscent of the beginning which was a good tactic used by Almódovar. Overall, this movie was enjoyable and exceeded our expectations. It was a very good movie and it was very unique.

The curse of the golden flower

We thought this movie was quite unusual from the start. We noticed throughout many of the scenes there was a lot of gold, vibrant colors, especially yellow. Also, we thought it was really weird how there was a lot of incest going on throughout the royal family, which ultimately led to a lot of drama, fighting , and death. We also get to see the cultural traditions of the Chinese Dynasty throughout the movie. We saw how much attention is given to the royal family, and how the royal family itself is filled with betrayal and dishonesty. You can also say that this movie was more along the violent side, and the plot seemed to be dragged down by this. However, i8n the end the violence seemed to recover all the drama and purpose. Also, we felt a lot of parts in the movie were dragged out and just plain dialogue and it got boring. But overall, this movie was a lot different from what we usually expect in a typical movie.

The cup

"The Cup" wasn't exactly the best movie to watch. At times it seemed uneventful, but there were some moments where a smile would crack. Whenever the monks spoke about football aka soccer it just reminded us that there are certain things that all people have in common. The love of football is such a common thing, but yet we see people like monks get so invigorated about the sport. Besides that point, most of the movie seemed bland. It wasn't really holding our attention, and at times we couldn't figure what was going on. Knowing that this movie was inspired didn't make it an inspiration. Overall the movie wasn't horrible, but it was only alright.

Children of Heaven

Children of Heaven was a very enjoyable movie for us to watch. It was a very different experience compared to the other foreign films we have watched. It was nice to see life through the perspective of children. It's funny that so much drama can occur around one pair of shoes. Both Ali and Zahra are very naive, but they're also very adventurous. Seeing every problem in their eyes was like a new experience. The best part would have to be the ending. When Ali runs the race, the connection between his running and Zahra's running was very symbolic. The running seemed to be symbolic of being in a rush or going straight towards the goal. For Ali, he wanted to win the pair of sneakers for his sister, but for Zahra, it was the fact that she had to return her brothers shoes immediately. Both goals seem simple and small, but the truth of the matter is they weren't. If they were such simple and small goals, then there wouldn't be a movie that was based around them.
